Il Ceppo is right on the Cassia road, between Monteriggioni and Siena. This gives the advantage of being surrounded by an incredible nature, like the Sienese Montagnola and Pian del Lago. For thir reason, it’s also the ideal place for leaving to mountain bike trips or horseback riding tours. Did you know that the territory of Monteriggioni is crossed since the ninth century a.d. From the ancient Via Francigena, road of merchants and pilgrims from Canterbury to Rome and Jerusalem? For this reason these places are full of castles and churches, abbeys and farmhouses. If you decide to stay, we will give you some suggestions on where to go and what to see, some ideas not written on the guides, places known only by us.

The town of Monteriggioni offers free of charge guided tours for tourists staying in hotels of the Monteriggioni area (guided tours in collaboration with the Guides of Siena Association). THE CASTLE OF MONTERIGGIONI
The old guard in defense of the Republic of Siena is still there, spared by the centuries,by the people, by all the wars of the modern era. So magnific to be quoted by the supreme Dante in his Divine Comedy, the castle of Monteriggioni, medieval fortress inexpugnable for centuries, is one of the most fascinating place of the province Siena. A few kilometers from our Bed and Breakfast, is really worth a visit.
THE FRANCIGENA ROUTE
The ancient Via Francigena, which led the pilgrims from Canterbury to ancient Rome, passes right by our side. 1600 km long, when it comes down to Tuscany, it passes nearby Massa then deviates to San Gimignano and then touches the castle of Monteriggioni. Traces are the various places of rest (Abbadia Isola) and pieces of the ancient cobblestones. Very interesting to discover and to follow.
THE SIENESE MONTAGNOLA
Beautiful hilly area full of woods and undergrowth, is the ideal place for a healthy natural trekking on foot, horseback riding or by bicycle. The paths of Montagnola are very well organized by CAI (the italian outdoor guide association). Inhabited since Etruscan and Roman times, it also offers the opportunity to visit ancient churches, palaces and castles.
What about one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe? Siena is a treasure casket of streets, buildings, churches, museums and sights. Wonderful city where you can visit, explore, but also just stroll through the narrow streets and enjoy such beauty and one of the best climates in Tuscany. Wonderful to visit at any season.

Everything started with Quinto. Now, this name is not a common name down here, since everybody here in Siena knows Quinto. Why? Well, you could ask the hundreds of hungry students that in the '50s found in him a generous, nice and fantastic host that provided them with such huge, rich, faboulous sandwiches that his first small restaurant had lines of youngsters out of the door waiting.....
To sleep (fine)
As we were saying, a dozen rooms, not more. But they are made really well! They are nothing luxurious, we don't have waiters in uniforms o whirlpool bath, but the wooden steps that leads you to the rooms is fantastic and reminds a lot of the time past, the beds are comfortable, space is abundant and bathrooms are elegant in typical Tuscan style but modern and very very clean.
To eat and to drink
Our breakfasts are truly unforgettable (it's quite easy to find a local friend eating croutons with lardo and beans at 10 a.m. with a glass of red wine!) and at lunch we offer many local fantastic dishes: bruschette, croutons of any kind, cured meat, cheese and varous vegetables, so that you can use all of your gastronomical fantasy to prepare panini of any measure and type.
